July 2, 2009 Good morning Roma, today we say our final farewell. Our driver met us on time and we received a very scenic view of the city as we took all the back roads, it seemed, to get to the airport.
Hurry up and wait has been the theme of today. We arrived early for our flight, which was then delayed for a hour. Once on board we headed west for home. Ten hours and 3 1/2 movies later for me, a couple of movies and an episode of House for Melissa, later we arrive in Atlanta. We go through customs, collect our bags, recheck our bags and end up doing an "OJ" through the airport only to see our connecting flight to Jacksonville fly away without us. Huffing and puffing we try to get our flight rescheduled. They wanted us to fly out tomorrow morning but we, hopefully, can get on the next flight by using standby. They just announced that it too has been delayed. Can we catch a break? It is 6:30 pm here in Atlanta...yep blogging from the airport, our bodies are telling us that it is 12:30 am Rome time.
We will definitely be ready for our own beds when we finally get home. This doesn't put a damper on a wonderful trip...this goes with the territory...you fly you get delayed. Patience is a virtue...one we have learned on this trip.
